Playtime!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 272 of 2020

A rural scene.
Calves with full tummies sort of following the milk feeder up the hill.
(Chasing me out of the paddock.)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 271 of 2020

The garden (and farm) appreciated a nice inch of rain.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 270 of 2020

It's not just the small kiddies who are enjoying the playground.
(And no, although farmdog Emma did it once, J couldn't really get the dogs to slide down the slide!)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 269 of 2020

A farm along the road often has peacocks in one of the paddocks. (I've counted well over a dozen at times.) It's surrounded by bush so they have somewhere to run and hide. Which is what they did as soon as I stopped the car to try and get a photo.
Hence the blurred shot, on full zoom!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 268 of 2020

So hard to find a flat place to park the feeder!
I don't often use this paddock. Won't be in a hurry to use it again :-)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 267 of 2020

"Higher, higher!"

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 266 of 2020

No, the chooks can't wait till the straw is on the garden before spreading it all over the place!!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 265 of 2020

When husbands have too much time on their hands!
I'd washed Carebear so it could be mended and handed back to ED.
Made by my aunty for her 32 years ago..!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 264 of 2020

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 263 of 2020

The MOML insisted I take this photo to show how long the grass is here in this paddock!
It was badly affected by the drought and crickets and he had to re-drill it twice.
The perennial grass mix we usually use was all sold out so we had to buy annual species.
We're enjoying it now but it will be interesting to see how long into the season it lasts!
PS See the calf sleeping towards the right of the photo?!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 256 of 2020

Today was the day to bring home some of the late calvers as their calving dates are getting closer.
Oops we were a day or two late for one of them.
This calf was trussed up and had a comfy ride home.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 255 of 2020

That time of the season again - beehives going onto some of the hills in the bush.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 254 of 2020

Day 250 of 2020

 Counting the calves for me.
They got to 38. There should have been 39. There were.
(Pretty good counting though!)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 249 of 2020

'Flying' like a bird!! hehe

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 248 of 2020

I've been enjoying getting the calves out onto the hills where there's some good grass for them.
More on my main blog *here*.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 247 of 2020

Poor Timmie needed to go to the vet. A bit upset on the way in, but surprisingly relaxed on the way home.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 246 of 2020

I wonder if the Blue Fairy Wren realises Flashcat is eyeing her up?

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 245 of 2020

I was talking to Mum the other day saying that all my photos at the moment are of calves or kiddies. 'And chickens' she reminded me!
So here's a change of scenery. I love these Giant Hyacinths. They lie in the ground forgotten for most of the year, then all of a sudden they're flowering again!
And the buds are really intriguing, the way the florets are tucked away with the lacy outer another feature in itself.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 244 of 2020

Finally the little chooks have been let out into the chook yard. The older ones were shut out so these could relax and explore.
I dismantled the thatch roof which became a good source of entertainment.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 243 of 2020

A face only  a mother could love - oddest looking calf so far this season  —

We have a family of cows who all have these blotchy faces.
This calf has an Angus sire so should have been born all black. That family gene is pretty strong!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 242 of 2020

Special Gandad and Odie time.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 241 of 2020

Lucky me got to look after Xavier while at work!
DIL was photographing quilts.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 240 of 2020

Three grandies at playcentre. Odie exploring paint for the first time.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 239 of 2020

From a distance, it looked like a graveyard of chicken bodies, but up close, it's just all the girls burrowing into the shed floor for their daily dust bath.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 238 of 2020

Dusk, and the Tui were feeding and singing.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 237 of 2020

I decided it was high time the 'baby chickens' came out of Fort Knox and got into the real world. Growing too big to be caged up. So I put together a cage in the hen yard to start the transition.
What has slowed this process down has been the continual rain. Sure enough, although the day started off well, heavy rain was forecast. I thought a thatched roof might work well to protect them, since they haven't been out in the big wide world before.
Great idea, they were very cosy!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 236 of 2020

We have a mob of late calvers out the runoff and they're getting a couple of large round bales of silage every few days.
This is the easiest way to feed them out. Cut the wrappings —
And push them down the hill. Usually they unroll quite well. Sometimes they don't! —
Happy Cows.
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 235 of 2020

Very upset that I drove past their drain while they were out for a morning dip.
I counted 13 ducklings in one of my photos!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 234 of 2020

Sub-tropical (looking) rainbow.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.
