Day 210 of 365

Spiders seem to have been busy overnight - look at the tangle of webs across the paddock!
Slightly reminiscent of the amazing sights seen a few weeks again which, apparently, went viral.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 208 of 365

This is a sight that always makes me smile - late afternoon the sparrows (and occasionally other birds) sit in these
branches waiting for me to come and feed the chooks.
Of course it's difficult to take a photo without them all flying away so I was pleased I got some of them tonight!
(These trees are in the chook yard).
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 207 of 365

My, hasn't she grown?!
Must be that milk she is getting every night!
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 206 of 365

Bringing today's new calvers (cows and their babies) in.
Some calves walk, other prefer to ride in the trailer.
And to the sheds.
Calves go left into the calfshed and the cows straight ahead to be milked.
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 203 of 365

Local farm supplies firm called in with a giftbag - a nice thought, some farmers are really suffering after all the
flooding. We are getting there!
(There were 2 Peanuts slabs...!)
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Monday, July 21, 2014

Day 202 of 365

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 201 of 365

Preparing the grass rations for the cows this morning - Causmag behind and water in front!

Another 4 inches overnight!
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 200 of 365

Yes, you guessed it; more rain!
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 199 of 365

Standing at the top of the hill, calling the cows, hoping they will come to us instead of having to go down and bring them up.
Time to take them home to the main farm so we don't have to walk too many calves home!
(I'm up to Day 200!!)
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Friday, July 18, 2014

Day 198 of 365

Obligatory first calf photo!
Yes, calving has started. Here we are bringing Mother and Son home from the runoff.
Notice that the fencing is finished!
(Late afternoon, odd light!)
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 197 of 365

It was a cooler morning and this fellow was very groggy, still trying to wake up and warm up!
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 196 of 365

What's in my beanie this month?
The chooks are laying again. I had forgotten about a late apple tree that had a few apples on - they survived the storm! Mandarins and Oranges, and the last of the Tamarillos (you can just see the stalks!)
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 195 of 365

I can't show you the wedding lace YD and I bought, but I can show you what we had for lunch :-)
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 194 of 365

The flood waters have drained away and today we managed to get over the bridge for the first time in 5 days.
It was a bit hairy and I let hubby drive me over. (He warned me he wouldn' t be able to stop halfway to take photos!)
Horses came down off the back hill for a bit of hay and some feed.
See the pumphouse? The water was 3/4 up that yesterday!
This is over the bridge. Yuck!! Mud, sludge and silt, not to mention branches and debris, everywhere.
And so the clean up begins; clearing the fences, putting posts and wires back up...
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 193 of 365

Really heavy rain last night (on top of all we've had this week) meant that a lot of Northland woke up to scenes like this
today.
Most of our 'flats' were under water. You can see the house and buildings are well above the water level. All our stock were on higher ground too.
By the end of the day a lot of the water at our place had drained away leaving a mess behind of course!
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Friday, July 11, 2014

Day 192 of 365

And so the stormy weather continues.
We cant leave the cows on the pastures for too long as they just make mud.
Not cold but any extra food is appreciated!
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Thursday, July 10, 2014

Day 191 of 365

Yes, it is still raining. The pets came out of their shed when I tossed some windfall grapefruit over the fence for them.
See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.
