June Days 7 and 8

Attempting to catch up with my days -
High Angle
Very interesting trying to find a photo and I finally managed this one.
Standing on the bridge throwing rocks into the water.
Low Angle
Just because.
Too busy down the farm throwing rocks into the river; wasn't up on the deck at the house to capture the sunset.
This will do though.
The sunset setting on the camera really helps to highlight the red light.

Farm photos

....interrupting the June series....
(Day 6 is the post prior to this!)

I had my camera with me when we took the cows 'out the back' the other day.
This is an area of land bordered by river and bush and quite inaccessible except via the track we use. It was cleared inadvertedly years ago by a fire that got out of control, and has been 'attached' to the main farm ever since.
Doniene and Mike, and anyone else, I thought you may be interested to see them :-)
The 90 cows we were able to keep milking during the drought are about to start their annual 3 km walk...
(The rest of the herd are grazing on other properties around the place).

....Crossing the road....
Weekends are a good time to put the herd across the road as there is little traffic.

..starting the trek up the first hill...
These paddocks are grazed during the milking season as they are relatively close to the cowshed.

No fences needed on the track as the bush is quite dense on both sides.
(The track can get quite muddy at times - click here!)
Ahh here at last. We need a feed after all that exercise!
Same mob of cows - looking the opposite way, and showing the lay of the land.

Then it was off to shift the calves. They are pretty happy too.
The calves are about 9-10 months old now.
Looking from the centre track back down at the calves.
The centre track is like a spine with the paddocks falling away down to the river/bush on the sides and the bottom.

No power out there so we use petrol to run the waterpump and have solar panels to run the electric fencing system.
This dam is one of 3. During the drought the main dam got a bit low so we switched to this one, and haven't changed back yet.
(Previous photo was taken from the top right of this picture, looking down over this dam.)
Thanks for reading along :-) Congratulations to you non-farmy people who got to the end.
I'll be back with Day 7 tomorrow!

June Day 6

Ohh too many choices!
Do I bake healthy or do I bake for my sweet tooth?!
[Obviously quilting books aren't the only ones I collect!]

I had a great time with this 365 day blog (May 1st 2012 to April 30th 2013 (approx). I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of taking the photos - trying to keep my photos relatively fresh and seeing those wow moments in each day - and making the not-so-wow moments interesting and photographable :-)
So when two of my 365-day buddies recently started another photography project, I thought "Why not jump in too!"
For the month of June (OK I'm a little late!) a photo a day from a predetermined list (found here).
First up is a self portrait...oh dear.... Sharon and Rachel have shown beautiful mirror photos but mine is an arm's length sort of photo while doing stock work.
I had just got the giggles at myself after taking goofy-face photos!
Feel free to join us in this adventure :-)

Day 368 -369 - 370 - 371 of 365 - and signing off.

Day 368 - TEXAS - here I come...!
Where real cowboys live
Day 369 -
Milking time - but not as I know it!!
Day 370
Mountain climbing on horseback.
Day 371
Kidding time in Texas.
OK!!! I've done it - I've mangaed 365 days of photographs - and a few more (yes, I am a sucker for punishment!). I am at an airport on my way back home so I think it is a fitting time to sign off this blog.
Thank you so much for playing along with me. I have thoroughly enjoyed this experience and treasure the friendships that have come from it, including those of Sharon and Doniene whom I have been lucky to spend time with recently. I have enjoyed all your comments, questions and feedback.
Take care, y'awl.
Thank you again.

Day 364 of 365

Recovery day!!!!!
10.41 pm and this is what my bed looks like - where will I sleep tonight??!!
A quiet day spent catching our breath after living on adrenaline and fibre (hehe) alone for the last 5 days. I was still in my nightie at 2pm this afternoon, however that was 8am NZ time so I hope I am forgiven!!!

Day 363 of 365

Walking about in Paducah
Whilst out shopping in the beautiful town of Paducah, we walked the length of the mural wall which edges the river. It protects the town from serious flooding (hopefully only 1 in 100 year ones). Each section of the wall was painted with a relevant picture...very beautiful and interesting.
