This photo signifies the day that the entire Northland region lost its power due to a transmission tower toppling over south of the region. I've never regretted upgrading our fireplace to one with a cast iron cooktop.

With the generator, fireplace and (nearly out of gas!) BBQ we were comfortable until the power came on about 7pm.

Because it's a temporary fix Northpower didn't turn the hot water on.

Again thankful the fireplace also has a wetback for hot water in the winter.

We've started training our heifers (first time calvers) to go through the shed.

We get them in, let them walk through the milking area, and out back to some fresh grass.

It gets them used to the concrete and being handled and make life so much easier all round when they do calf and need to be milked.

Now that my 'babies' are 12 weeks old, I am locking the rest of the flock OUT of the chook run in the afternoons. Then letting the young ones out of their Pullet Palace for exploring and exercise. 

They were very unsure the first time and it took quite a few minutes for them to venture out!

Yes, everyone is moulting and you can see feathers everywhere.

I got to watch the 8 year olds play football for the first time this season, when they had a home game at our local sports complex.

Of course you can pick them, the two blondies.
