Overnight rain

The river is swollen after a heavy downpour last night. Here it has started to receded and we can now cross the bridge.

Travelling Day

I travelled down to my parents' today to help out for a few days before we get too busy with calving at home....Mum finished this hardanger piece tonight, it is an insert for a greeting card, quite tiny and lovely variegated thread.

Farm work

After a little bit of rain the clay track out to the runoff out the back has gone greasy and sticky. We had 'fun' getting up some of the hills today... all the treads on the tyres had filled up with clay (no grip), the ones on the trailer weren't even rotating!

Lycopodium grows at the edge of the track out to the back of the farm. It's valued by floral artists as it lasts a long time and has quite a unique look. This plant was about 12 inches tall.

Farm Work

Our first cow has calved. Today we walked Mother and son home to the main farm... the 2-day old calf walked 3kms! (We had a trailer for back-up if needed!)

On Day 50 I showed you our pumpshed....

This is the stream where we pump our water from. It starts in a spring up in the bush somewhere.
We once walked for nearly 2 hours up it and couldn't find the source!

This is showing where the stream meets the main river. The main river comes from straight ahead where the overgrown willows are and the little stream flows in off towards the left.

We did it!!

The new leather belt for my old Singer arrived today so we spent some time fitting it and trying to master the machine. It was hard work until we gave it a good oil - and then it was whizzing away like a proper machine!! Hubby was at the treadle and there was real excitement in his voice - "I'm sewing!" I've never heard him exclaim that before! Next step - try some thread.
