Day 29 of 2024

Remember the foraged *blackberries*?
Blackberry and apple 'pie' for dinner (and the fridge).
Yummo, even we could have done with a few more blackberries!
I used a new GF tart pastry recipe which turned out really well.
You could even drape it over the rolling pin to place in the pie dish!!!!!!!

Day 28 of 2024

One of those days when none of my photos inspire me!
I had tried to quieten down *these* two young pullets by caging them and getting them used to being handled.
I tried for about a week and gave up as I was making very little progress and seemed to be freaking them out more than taming them. I have also read that the Leghorn breed can be nervous and flighty and don't enjoy being handled.
SO, I doubt that I will ever see them pecking out of the feed bucket right next to me like the Shavers.

Day 27 of 2024

Foraging.
Not many blackberry bushes escapes the men and their sprayers.
(They quickly take over.)
I spied a sneaky little blackberry cane down near the chook yard which I harvested.
Along with a few windfall apples, we have the makings of a (small) pie.

Day 25 of 2024

I'm getting brave with wee Tammy and taking her outside for an explore.
Here she is contemplating running across the cow paddock to chase a bee!

Day 24 of 2024

Another day of energetic children.
(These are wrapped silage bales - plenty in preparation for the summer drought.)

Day 22 of 2024

Remember *these*?
I spotted this next door, at my son's.
Unfortunately this one had 'hatched' by the time the kiddies got home, but they did spot another one that they spent some time watching (and waiting) before it was time for bed.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn.

Day 21 of 2024

No hope of any views on my walk. It was very murky and I was lucky I didn't get wet.
No rain of any substance happened which would have been nice, once I was inside again!

Day 20 of 2024

A family member you may not have met yet.
Doing Ganma duties for Porky.

Day 18 of 2024

Harvest of our first bananas for the year!
As you can see, there are more bunches coming on, too.

Day 16 of 2024

Any amount of rain is a good excuse for an umbrella when you're a small child.

Day 15 of 2024

A ridge I haven't ever walked along - one day maybe. It takes about 1.5 km to get to this point and I never quite have the energy to continue on (and walk back!!)
(In the private reserve that neighbours our property.)

Day 14 of 2024

One of the worst things is when the power goes off during milking - all the cups fall off the cows, and milk spills out of the receiving can.
It flickered on and off once during the afternoon milking, and then went off again five minutes later.
The MOML is a dab hand at getting the tractor and generator hooked up to continue on in peace!
The mains power came on again just as he was hosing down and cleaning up.

Back to this again today.
Still drowning in plums!

Day 12 of 2024

I had two smalls visit me at (my off-farm!) work today. They live just a short walk away.
They were fascinated by the range of thread colours but more so by the spring action way the thread spools 'pop ' put of the stand!

Day 11 of 2024

The Grandies next door are enjoying lots of Monarch caterpillars at the moment.

Day 10 of 2024

These are my two young pullets, who I have put in the Pullet Palace in an attempt to quieten them down. Raised by an unfriendly hen, she didn't let me near them, nor them near me!
They actually relaxed and ate their dinner with me in there - for the first time. And they got relatively close to me,  to get at their food.
Patience will be required but I feel like it will pay off!

Day 9 of 2024

Another one of those gorgeous mornings, on my daily hill climb.
Well worth the puffing and panting to get up there!

Day 8 of 2024

Afternoon tea for Mum's last day.

Day 7 of 2024

Yes, I'm still at it. Different tree, same action - freezing and bottling!

Day 6 of 2024

I discovered a spot out the back where beehives had been put that I didn't know about!
Even though the manuka is no longer flowering, the bees were still fairly busy.
And yes, we did get a little bit of rain!

Day 5 of 2024

Every January the Norfolk Island Hibiscus is abuzz with flowers and bees.
This January is no exception!

Day 4 of 2024

I went slightly further on my hill climb and had a different angle to photograph from.

Day 2 of 2024

As happens when you have so many plums, jam making happens.
I discovered I am low on smaller jars so we have massive jars of jam!
I've put the call out to the family to hunt through their cupboards for me.

Day 1 of 2024

We've started the New Year with an abundance of plums!
