Day 263 of 2025

It was my turn to prepare dinner tonight. Meatballs.
We've set up a roster for dinners, etc, while we all spend time with mum.

See you tomorrow,

Day 256 of 2025

YD and son-in-law's Fathers' Day gift was to give us 24 hours away - not usual for this time of the year.
While it was all hands on deck back home, we enjoyed a leisurely dinner at The Duke of Malborough in the historic town of Russell.

Day 225 of 2025

Annual combined rural schools cross country event - the Taniwha Challenge.
Held in the back of beyond.
I asked the kids how they know where to go, and they said they just follow the quad bike!
Two blond 10 year olds in the blue, centre-ish of photo.
They came in 4th and 6th.

Day 94 of 2025

This was the only view I had as I flew from Whangarei to Auckland. As we climbed, the rain clouds enveloped us.....but A) rain clouds mean rain (yaay) and B) they weren't bumpy clouds (double yaay).

See you tomorrow (from Australia)

Day 3 of 2025

I kinda went rogue on my daily walk, going into the reserve next door and on the track around its perimeter. Luckily it was well marked with the orange triangles as the path was a bit obscure in places.
A good 2½ hour walk!!

Day 327 of 2024

I love driving through this little bit of bush, out on the farm, where these ferns live.
I've always guessed that they are Staghorn Ferns???

Day 255 of 2024

We were thrilled to discover the native Clematis, Puawananga, in flower in the neighbouring reserve.
Such a pretty flower, the photo doesn't do it justice.
This time of the year, the MOL is always on the lookout for it - he's seen it once; across the valley at the top of some tall trees!
There were two younger plants, at eye level, growing on small trees (this one was on a Puriri, you can see some leaves of it mid-far right).
Now that we've found these and they're easily accessible we'll have to keep an eye on them and try to get some seeds from them later on.

Day 136 of 2024

Sadly I missed the Aurora over the weekend, but did catch this beautiful sky just before sunrise

Day 119 of 2024

It's that time of the year again, when winter sport takes up our Saturdays.
A home game for our guys - our son is the big looking number 3.

A great day for flying.
Whangarei to Auckland.
The first leg of my next adventure!

Day 86 of 2024

I was interested to see one lonely beehive left behind...maybe it couldn't fit on the back of the beekeeper's truck?

Day 81 of 2024

I've got a little behind in posting my photos - days spent doing farm compliance paperwork make for uninspiring photos...and once you miss one day, it's easy to get behind!
A catch up is in order.

I'm still walking most days and catching the odd sunrise!

See you tomorrow,

Day 79 of 2024

Not a very pretty photo but there is a story behind it.....
I decided to do a different walk - instead of over the road and out towards the runoff as usual, I thought I'd go the opposite way over the bridge and up the back hills. The MOML suggested that if I carried on through the bush tracks, I would end up at the back of the neighbours and I could walk through his place, along the road and back home - a loop walk.
I stood at the top of this steep track, telling myself that if I went down it, I wouldn't want to climb back up it and I'd better be sure I was committed to doing the loop.
So down I went.
The track I went on ended up in a dead end - totally impassable.
So guess what - I ended up climbing back up this hill - not an easy task!!!
(Apparently I did took a left onto a track that was never finished because of the terrain, instead of a right turn!)

Day 69 of 2024

The main event of the day was climbing Mount Manaia. The track leads to the base of one of those rocks but we're not 100% sure which one!
A good work out but well worth the effort!

Day 68 of 2024

The quiet, private, beach where we are staying for the next few days.
(The tide was out!)
