Day 57 of 2024

In a little corner of a garden I have my Avocado Graveyard, where I put Avocado stones in the hope that the odd one will sprout.
Two new plants this summer!

Day 56 of 2024

After a few days away, it's back home for us.
This view as you come over the Brynderwyns and into Northland is usually a great sight but it was a bit of a murky day so it wasn't as stunning.
This main route into Northland is closing for 9 weeks while essential repairs are carried out. The road was pretty busy with people wanting to get places before it was closed.

Day 55 of 2024

Climbing Mount Maunganui in the Bay of Plenty with my sister and b-i-l. A good work out!

Day 54 of 2024

Another photo from the Karangahape Gorge. We went on a beautiful long walk which included an amazing 1 km long railway tunnel built in 1905.

Day 53 of 2024

A change of scenery for us for a few days.
The Karangahape Gorge, near the start of the Coromandel Ranges in the Uupper Waikato.

Day 50 of 2024

The herd waiting to be let across the road for the day's paddock.
They were hopeful that I might open the gates for them but milking hadn't finished yet so I was too early.

Day 49 of 2024

As the afternoon progressed the sky turned grey and there was a feeling that there might be some rain coming.
Sadly, what we see here on the deck is all we got.
Not enough to quench the dry ground.

Day 48 of 2024

Being a kitten of endless energy, Tammy creates circuits that she runs around - over the chair, onto the windowsill, out the door, in the door, over and over again.
This time, she was back and forth from bag to bag until the paper bag had scooted across the floor and caught up under a chair.
It's such fun being a kitten!

Day 47 of 2024

Another one of those "Oh I forgot to take any photos" days.
Luckily I always take at least one on my daily hill climb; here it is!

Day 46 of 2024

An all-hands-on-deck milking.
Our annual Herd Test - where we collect samples of each cow's milk which are taken away for testing.
The results give us an idea of how each cow is doing and also, if the cow is in-calf (pregnant) or not.
My job was to collect and replace all the flasks, sort them and make sure there were no mistakes.

Day 45 of 2024

Fun Fact - the lane which ED lives on runs alongside the property which my work, The Country Yard, is on.
So it was no surprise when I heard small voices calling me while at work. What was a surprise was to see the owners of the small voices climbing the rock wall!
(On their way home from school.)

Just sneaking back to add another photo - one my daughter took from the other side of the wall -

Odie got everything he asked for on his birthday cake - trains, dinosaurs, lava and lollipops!

Day 41 of 2024

Another animal photo today.
I saw 'my calves' for the first time in a while today.
This calf was one of the first ones born and she is now 7 months old.
(*Here* she is at a few days old.)
I didn't expect them to be so big!

Day 40 of 2024

It's dried out a lot over the last 3 weeks so the silage is an essential part of the cows' diet now. The MOML is feeding out about 5 a day at the moment.

Day 36 of 2024

Watching the MOML work!
Our damp clay based soils can grow decent crops of rushes (to the right of the tractor) which have no feed value and look messy and unproductive. Every couple of years the mulcher goes on the tractor and they get a good tidy up.
(When we first came here, the areas of rushes were so overgrown you could hardly see a cow lying down in amongst them!)

Day 35 of 2024

Not the best photo but with the lighting, the best I got - Girls' Night Out. A special treat for ED, a grandie and myself. Someone was very happy.

Day 34 of 2024

Our first sunflower!
To be honest, since Christmas time, our Ramble block has been a little neglected. The last few weeks have been very hot as well, so it was with trepidation that I visited it!
It's not looking as bad as I feared, plus the sunflowers are starting to bloom. (Odie helped me plant these and they're very bunched up - I was surprised they have got to this stage!)
Finally, we have water and a tap up there so we can rescue some of those that are looking a little sad.

Day 33 of 2024

I left the house slightly earlier for my morning walk and caught the sunrise!

Day 32 of 2024

A change of pace for the MOML.
He is no longer milking in the afternoons so had the time and energy to take the dogs for a swim.
A lovely cool way to spend the end of a hot day!
