Legend says that a Fantail (Piwakawaka) inside a building can signify bad news in the form of a death....this one was in and out of the shop all day.

Over the years I have seen many fantail inside - thank goodness the legend appears to be just that.

A farm along the road often has peacocks in one of the paddocks. (I've counted well over a dozen at times.) It's surrounded by bush so they have somewhere to run and hide. Which is what they did as soon as I stopped the car to try and get a photo.
Hence the blurred shot, on full zoom!

Finally the little chooks have been let out into the chook yard. The older ones were shut out so these could relax and explore.
I dismantled the thatch roof which became a good source of entertainment.

From a distance, it looked like a graveyard of chicken bodies, but up close, it's just all the girls burrowing into the shed floor for their daily dust bath.

I decided it was high time the 'baby chickens' came out of Fort Knox and got into the real world. Growing too big to be caged up. So I put together a cage in the hen yard to start the transition.
What has slowed this process down has been the continual rain. Sure enough, although the day started off well, heavy rain was forecast. I thought a thatched roof might work well to protect them, since they haven't been out in the big wide world before.
Great idea, they were very cosy!

Time that these growing chicks had a move. They're getting too big for their box  in the downstairs room. And look how they fill up the cat cage  - they lived in here for the first few days when I brought them home.

Our new surroundings are very scary!! 

Fort Knox.

My two concerns with taking them to the 'old pigsty' is security and warmth. I'm hoping to have both bases covered with this setup!
