The brown chicken has been clucky and sitting on a nest for the past month. 

She's trying to hatch one plastic (fake) egg.

Occasionally she gets off to feed. 

She puts on a great display, telling the other hens to stay well away from her nest while she's off it!!

(Usually I put clucky hens in a 'naughty box' for 3 or 4 days and they stop being broody but I didn't this time for a variety of reasons. I wish I had a month ago but she's in it now!)

My chook run is getting very overgrown - I seriously have to do something about that lemon tree as I almost need to duck to get in!!

The milk from the new calvers is not keeping well at all now that the days are a lot warmer.

Lately I've made yoghurt, cottage cheese and mozzarella (!!!) when adding hot water to warm it up for the calves.

What the calves won't drink, the chickens definitely will!

The chooks haven't slowed down in their laying while I've been away and someone even managed to lay this Double Yolker for us.

It's a meal and a half!

It was suggested the other day that the wee half-sized egg could go to Odie.

Apart from the fact that those little eggs usually have no yolk, he would devour it in a mouthful, he's a growing lad and his appetite is boundless.

He LOVES the green eggs which one chicken lays so I put together special little egg cartons for him.

(The white eggs are his second favourite.)

The other day he asked his Mum if she could buy him some ham, so that he could have Green Eggs and Ham for dinner!!

Nice to have another generation of Dr Suess lovers!

(PS the green eggs are normal coloured inside.)

Having a flock of chickens run at you at feed time can be daunting for the kids.

Odie's realised that if you run fast you don't get crowded by chooks and it's a lot more fun!

I amused myself by putting the chook food in a coconut shell that was lying around.

The chooks obviously don't mind where their food comes from but they decided four around it at once was a crowd, leaving just these two to empty it.

This old girl has been in the Pullet Palace for some time - I thought she was on her last legs but have realised that she might have had Bumblefoot - an infection in her foot cause by a puncture wound (or something).

Online recommendations are for vet attention but the MOML didn't think much of that idea for an old chook.

She seems to be improving and actually has her head up - and not curled down under her and is walking around pecking at food again.

Fingers crossed.

This 'kitten' is scared of the chooks.

The Chooks are wary of her.

But she won't stay away.

She causes havoc in the chicken yard - some of the chooks won't walk past her to come in for their feed (and to be shut away for the night); she won't let me catch her to remove her.

There's a lot of clucking and prowling.

I try to be as sneaky as I can - feed her at the house and sneak down to do the chooks - but she gulps down her food and catches me up.

Or I shut the doors but she finds an open window and catches me up.

There's a handful of chickens who won't enter the yard with her there.

So I often have to go back at dusk once they're roosting for the night to shut the door.
