Day 176 of 2025

Breakfast time for this mob of cows.
They're slowly moving across this hillside; 1/3 paddock a day - winter rationing is needed so that the cows don't get too fat which leads to multiple problems at calving time.

A very well fed, content pussy cat who brightens many a day!
Below you can see the cat kennel next to the lift and steps.

Day 168 of 2025

The hospital has a lovely spot on top of one the buildings.
A nice place to have a coffee and a bit of fresh air.
Supposedly winter time but the Bay of Plenty has similar winter temperatures to Northland so there's still plenty of greenery around.

Day 167 of 2025

Quite a change of scenery for an early morning walk. While the bit of estuary was nice, this country girl couldn't get over the traffic noise (and smell and busy-ness!!)

Day 163 of 2025

It was a wet travelling day, and then a few hours at the hospital visiting mum (who is having ankle issues) so no real photo opportunities.
I was so pleased to get some crispy fried chicken for dinner that I took a photo of our food! (This restaurant/pub had a seperate fryer or their GF food which meant it was totally safefor me. Not many places do.)
It was yummy!!
(Excuse the MOML's goofy face; I have a hard time getting him to smile!!)

Day 151 of 2025

Woot woot last milking of the season.
Drying off the herd so the cows can have a holiday over the winter before they start calving again in 6 weeks time.
Each cow has a tube of 'stuff' inserted in each teat - either a waxy gel that seals the teat so that mud and infection can't get in over the winter OR some long acting antibiotic if they've had mastitis or been identified as having more 'germ cells' than they should (through the annual herd test).

Raewyn

Day 150 of 2025

If you look closely at #44's ears you will understand why we call her Raggy.
Nearly 10 years ago, when she was not quite 6 months old we discovered that something had chewed her ears - we surmised a hunter with his dogs had been out to the runoff, and one dog had latched on to each ear, as they can do with a wild pig.
Luckily it hasn't affected her and she is a quiet, friendly cow.

(We're very choosy with our hunters but unfortunately they can access our property from other areas, especially if they are chasing a pig. Now that our son-in-law who is a very capable hunter, is living on the property, we've decided to ban all other hunters to the runoff.)
