Day 335 of 2024

Not the best photo, I know, but it shows the fun of a quick late afternoon swim.
Yes, Ganma jumped in too!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 334 of 2024

Thursdays are 'Touch' night at the local sports centre.
Four of the grandies play so it's a good chance to see them all in action.
Here the Fast Flashes in pink are playing the Wolf Gang in orange!!
Kaliah the blonde looking like she's about to 'touch'.

Raewyn

Day 333 of 2024

Time for fertiliser to go on the farm.

Day 332 of 2024

Another morning of stockwork, sorting another wee mob of calves for weaning.
Waiting for their drench and vaccinations.

Day 327 of 2024

I love driving through this little bit of bush, out on the farm, where these ferns live.
I've always guessed that they are Staghorn Ferns???

Day 324 of 2024

Woot woot!
The moment we've been waiting for for a LONG time.
YD's house arrived in the early hours.
It's floating and out of bounds until the piles get done.
(And with that, I am finally up-to-date and will be back to posting 'real time'!)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 323 of 2024

ED and I visited some gardens as part of the Whangarei Garden Discovery.
We visited 5 of them and a lot of it was in the pouring rain!!
This was one of the more rural gardens we explored (and the only photo with her in it as it that didn't also include a bunch of umbrellas!)

Day 319 of 2024

Yes, still feeding calves...!

Day 318 of 2024

Having fun doing a photo shoot.
(The Loquats are delicious at the moment.)

Day 317 of 2024

One of the treasures you find when the house is quiet.
Odie discovered a hole in piglet's arm which needed mending.
He told me he would put her by my Washing Machine (!).
Here she is, with a quilt (mugrug) to keep her warm
and pins.
Because that is what happens in sewing rooms!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 316 of 2024

'End of Year' performance for Lily's gymnastics.
Wee performances to music.
Note the 'dress-up' sunglasses!
Too cute.

Raewyn

Day 315 of 2024

Still emptying that calfshed. Good to see the concrete in places.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 314 of 2024

Hiho can be a pretty bratty wee horse but the kids are now quite comfortable with her.
She was too bad tempered for them to ride when they were younger, and now they are too big to ride her. Go figure.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 313 of 2024

Now that all the calves are outside on the grass, it's time to empty all the shavings out of the calfshed.
Three months of layering them up to create dry bedding now needs to be undone!
Naturally Odie did his best to help :-)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 312 of 2024

Sometimes. The chooks. Just get in. The. Way!
Very difficult to get out of the calfshed!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 311 of 2024

The bees must be busy as the apiarists brought out more add-ons for the hives!

See you tomorrow,

Day 310 of 2024

Well Hello You.

See you tomorrow,

Day 309 of 2024

My turn to get the herd in, taking them to the shed for afternoon milking.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 308 of 2024

Both primary schools held their Ag Day on the same day this year so poor Ganma was a bit stretched.
Here are Lily and George with Leah and Piglet (4th name change) waiting for their turn to lead their lambs.

Day 307 of 2024

Woot woot, lots of flowers on the Feijoa trees!!

Day 305 of 2024

Heating for the pool means that summer swimming can start in October!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 304 of 2024

Odie often sets up his own little 'office' when he comes to visit.
Usually it's just a calculator on his desk, and I have to sit opposite him and buy something!
Lately he's added a pencil and paper and is getting interested in writing his name.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 303 of 2024

Every year this rose gives us so much pleasure! It rambles throughout the garden and the blooms are everywhere.
It's always hard to know when it's at its peak, but this photo isn't too far off it.
Once it has finished flowering the work begins, cutting it back so the rest of the garden can bloom.
Then it will be back this time next year!

Raewyn

Day 302 of 2024

Lily helping me to feed the calves.
Breaking the rules here as, obviously, I didn't take the photo!
ED took this photo and I thought it too cute not to put up :-)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 301 of 2024

With only five calves left in the calfshed now, I have time to line them up in colour order.
Just for the fun of it.
(I do love all the different shades of brown/black that turn up!)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 300 of 2024

And just like that, harvesting is done.
Those men and their big machines returned and baled the silage.

Day 299 of 2024

The neighbour had the contractors coming to make some silage so we took advantage of him being in the area to do some light crops.
Amazing machinery they have these days ($$$) - big tractors with one mower in the front and one at the side. It took only three rounds and about 10 minutes to mow each paddock!!

Raewyn

Day 298 of 2024

Mr Bully Bull patiently waiting his turn!

Afternoon view from my office aka The Calfshed.

Day 296 of 2024

A visit to the runoff (out the back) and checking on last year's batch of calves.
Gosh they've grown!!

Day 294 of 2024

Last calf to teach to drink this season.
He got the knack very quickly :-)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 293 of 2024

After making us wait forever, the last cow finally calved!
Yaay, that's the end of calving for the 2024-25 season.
(Three months after the first cow calved!)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 292 of 2024

Always planning ahead...stocking up on bales of silage - for a dry summer - or a dry autumn - or a wet winter!
The grass that went into these bales was so lush that the bales were very soft and couldn't be stacked on top of each other (except for the truck ride here!) or the bottom ones would just collapse!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 291 of 2024

Little Tammy Cat really pushes her luck.
It's only because I was standing nearby that she was able to get so close to Emma Dog.
Normally there is a bark and a chase whenever Emma sees her.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 290 of 2024

"Hey what about us?"
Paddock calves waiting for their feed....unknown to them, they were now on once-a-day feeding and were not going to get a feed!
(Their breakfast feed was double the amount they usually got so they were not going to starve!)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 289 of 2024

As Calving rolls into Mating, the herd gets some colourful tail paint (along the tailbone) to help us identify which cows need to be put up for mating.
(If the tail paint is rubbed off, they've been 'riding' each other which is optimum mating time.)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 288 of 2024

Bull #1. The father of some of my calves.
(100% Angus)
He doesn't look too ferocious here but I wouldn't like to come across him on a dark night.
Nor would I like him to stand on my toe!
(Lily, recently learning about puns, delighted us (and herself) by describing him and Bull # 2 as
"bully bullies"!)

See you tomorrow,
(Trying to catch up again!)
Raewyn
