Day 36 of 2025

This 'kitten' is scared of the chooks.

The Chooks are wary of her.

But she won't stay away.

She causes havoc in the chicken yard - some of the chooks won't walk past her to come in for their feed (and to be shut away for the night); she won't let me catch her to remove her.

There's a lot of clucking and prowling.

I try to be as sneaky as I can - feed her at the house and sneak down to do the chooks - but she gulps down her food and catches me up.

Or I shut the doors but she finds an open window and catches me up.

There's a handful of chickens who won't enter the yard with her there.

So I often have to go back at dusk once they're roosting for the night to shut the door.

I was pretty pleased when a random pumpkin plant started growing near the compost bin a month or so ago.

Lately, though, I've realised it's the inedible variety we grew last year for the pumpkin growing competition!!

I thought it time I shared a farm photo; you can see how much it changed with the summer dry.

The farm is very dry but you can see some paddocks look green with some fairly unpalatable Paspalum. The paddock to the left was yesterday's one.

The cows are enjoying three bales of silage twice a day.

Here's hoping for the forecast rain this week.

Probably the most boring looking photo ever, but this shows that 

A) it was raining (only 6 mls but it was a decent shower)

B) the effectiveness of the cover we put on the deck last November - nice to be able to sit out there even if it's raining!

I kinda went rogue on my daily walk, going into the reserve next door and on the track around its perimeter. Luckily it was well marked with the orange triangles as the path was a bit obscure in places.

A good 2½ hour walk!!
