Such a beautiful setting for beautiful quilts.

Day 171 of 2025

Not far from the hospital is the Historic Village which I enjoyed a nice wander around. Some quite cool little shops with an arty vibe.

Day 169 of 2025

Saying my daily hello to 'Steps', the cat who lives at the bottom of the lift/stepswhich take you from the lower level carpack of the hospital up to the main hospital.
A very well fed, content pussy cat who brightens many a day!
Below you can see the cat kennel next to the lift and steps.

Day 168 of 2025

The hospital has a lovely spot on top of one the buildings.
A nice place to have a coffee and a bit of fresh air.
Supposedly winter time but the Bay of Plenty has similar winter temperatures to Northland so there's still plenty of greenery around.

Day 167 of 2025

Quite a change of scenery for an early morning walk. While the bit of estuary was nice, this country girl couldn't get over the traffic noise (and smell and busy-ness!!)

Day 163 of 2025

It was a wet travelling day, and then a few hours at the hospital visiting mum (who is having ankle issues) so no real photo opportunities.
I was so pleased to get some crispy fried chicken for dinner that I took a photo of our food! (This restaurant/pub had a seperate fryer or their GF food which meant it was totally safefor me. Not many places do.)
It was yummy!!
(Excuse the MOML's goofy face; I have a hard time getting him to smile!!)

Day 162 of 2025

The main reason for our getaway?
To attend the National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek.
A pretty big affair with over 1200 exhibitors and farmers of all ages and stages attending.

Day 161 of 2025

The MOML and I are away for a few days - it was a fun surprise to see lots of yarn bombing in Cambridge :-)
It was up and down the main street advertising a upcoming Fibre Festival.

Well my sports photography skills aren't improving, but it was Saturday sports day.
Blonde George had a great game in the bitter wet and cold!

Day 157 of 2025

We've decided Winter is now here and have (finally) lit the fire.
Tammy-Cat thought it was a great idea!

Day 156 of 2025

We didn't think we'd had too much rain overnight, but it seems somewhere up river from us there must have been a fair bit - the river was well and truly up!

Day 151 of 2025

Woot woot last milking of the season.
Drying off the herd so the cows can have a holiday over the winter before they start calving again in 6 weeks time.
Each cow has a tube of 'stuff' inserted in each teat - either a waxy gel that seals the teat so that mud and infection can't get in over the winter OR some long acting antibiotic if they've had mastitis or been identified as having more 'germ cells' than they should (through the annual herd test).

Raewyn

Day 150 of 2025

If you look closely at #44's ears you will understand why we call her Raggy.
Nearly 10 years ago, when she was not quite 6 months old we discovered that something had chewed her ears - we surmised a hunter with his dogs had been out to the runoff, and one dog had latched on to each ear, as they can do with a wild pig.
Luckily it hasn't affected her and she is a quiet, friendly cow.

(We're very choosy with our hunters but unfortunately they can access our property from other areas, especially if they are chasing a pig. Now that our son-in-law who is a very capable hunter, is living on the property, we've decided to ban all other hunters to the runoff.)

Day 149 of 2025

A small boy insists that I park at the school's 'top' carpark so that we can count the steps.
There are 40!

Day 148 of 2025

Remember the two pigs our son-in-law got out the back of the farm?
Two big bags of bacon now reside in our freezer (and two in their freezer).
Yum.

Day 147 of 2025

You're seeing a little more of Odie this week as I am on Ganma duties before and after (and to and from) school while his parents are on holiday.
We wanted to check out the river after the heavy rain the night before - verdict - the river is up but it's not a flood.
The MOML had planned to have the cows over the river the night before but thought he'd better change plans/paddocks because of the forecast.
It was up enough (higher than where Odie is standing) that they would have been stranded and missed the morning milking.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 146 of 2025

Having a flock of chickens run at you at feed time can be daunting for the kids.
Odie's realised that if you run fast you don't get crowded by chooks and it's a lot more fun!

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 145 of 2025

The neighbour has lent us a few of his sheep to get the grass in the orchard back under control.
It's going to take them a while!

Day 138 of 2025

I'm going with another photo that I obviously didn't take
(totally breaking my rules for my photo-a-day mission).
I didn't get many photos today; we had a family get-together for our 40th wedding anniversary.
A fun day with a nice full house.
Haha I always insist on cake but wanted a no-fuss one......hence the Valentines Day Lego bear and the sprinkles and - to the kids' delight, chocolate fish!!!

Day 137 of 2025

Company on my morning hill walk!
Yes, it's very obviously that it was my sister taking the selfie so technically it's not one of my photos - I did take a selfie at the same time but, due to typical-Raewyn-ness, hers is so much better!

Day 136 of 2025

Special roses for me from the MOML.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 135 of 2025

The MOML has been focussed on tidying up trees lately; for firewood (dry for this winter, wet for next winter). But he's eyeing up this big Totara log to make a special sign for out the back.
I will watch this space!!

Day 134 of 2025

With the cooler weather Tammy Cat is more open to snuggles and cuddles.

Day 133 of 2025

After years of nagging (!!) the MOML is putting up a new workshop/bike shed.
He's always needed a better place to work on vehicles, plus he needs somewhere safe to store his hobby bikes.

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 132 of 2025

I amused myself by putting the chook food in a coconut shell that was lying around.
The chooks obviously don't mind where their food comes from but they decided four around it at once was a crowd, leaving just these two to empty it.

Happy Mothers' Day!!

Day 130 of 2025

Giving the cows their afternoon shift so that the MOML could go in and watch YD play hockey.
It was about 1 1/2 km walk to their new paddock - they didn't mind the walk but I took the bike!

Day 129 of 2025

I finally cleared a patch of garden for planting the pansies Lily insisted I buy (hehe) on Saturday.
Love that colour!

Day 128 of 2025

All the heavy rain came before we finished fertilising the runoff this autumn.
The paddocks are really wet (ideal for pigs!) and the track out there is getting greasy.
Difficult for trucks.
It's poor, hungry country so we really didn't want it to miss out.
3/4 hour with a helicopter got the job completed for another year.
(Two hill paddocks just across the road were done too, saves me having kittens watching the MOML do it himself!)

See you tomorrow,
Raewyn

Day 127 of 2025

Pigs are causing a huge amount of damage out at the runoff at the moment - digging up all the grass.
There are at least three mobs living within the area.
Son-in-law turned up on our doorstep with two pigs so a last minute hanging set-up was needed.
Keeping to his philosophy of hunt-to-eat, these will become bacon.

Raewyn

Day 126 of 2025

If it wasn't for my morning walks, sometimes I wouldn't have a daily photo.
Love these spectacular mornings!
