Another very wet day. In a moment of calm, I walked down to the river to see if I could see the bridge (I couldn't) and checked on the girls as I walked past.
They were happy!

A note about socks.
I always made sure that my children wore Matching Socks!
It was one standard that I felt I could maintain in that busy time of young children and chaos.
I have noticed, however, that Odie never wears matching socks.
I have been told first hand by the young man himself that he pulls his nicely matching pairs of socks apart so that he can wear odd socks!
Why? Because he likes to wear odd socks!!!

This is the same paddock shown in this photo just over 2 weeks ago - different angle.
Amazing what a bit of rain will do!
We usually feed out before the cows enter the paddock but this time we had to have a last minute change of plans because the intended paddock was across the river - and the bridge was under water due to unexpected additional rain overnight!!
It's just a bit safer to not be dealing with cows as well as the tractor and unravelling bales.

As usual, Sue and I were easily distracted as we headed south and the trip to West Wyalong took us much longer than expected!

An outback tour today, taking us to the Opal Minefields.
We were taken to 3 pubs (!) which are the heart of each little community.
Here we are fossicking for opals in areas where loads of mine tailings have been put.
We found little bits of opal rock but NO colour so of no significance (nor financial benefit)!!

This was the only view I had as I flew from Whangarei to Auckland. As we climbed, the rain clouds enveloped us.....but A) rain clouds mean rain (yaay) and B) they weren't bumpy clouds (double yaay).

We managed to secure grazing for 35 younger cows.
Which means no more milking for that mob, taking the pressure off them and the rest of the farm.
Luckily it's quite local but not close enough to walk to - these girls are waiting for their turn on the truck.

I thought I'd share how the farm is looking at the moment.
Pretty dry, with no real rain all year.
The bits of green look nice and hopeful, but kikuyu and paspalum do little more than entertain the cows.
Rain is coming soon- we hope!!!

Not the clearest of photos, sorry.
Wee shop visitor today.
Legend says that a Fantail (Piwakawaka) inside a building can signify bad news in the form of a death....this one was in and out of the shop all day.
Over the years I have seen many fantail inside - thank goodness the legend appears to be just that.
